Matt Smith vs. The Irredeemable Shag
Doctor Who, personal January 8th, 2009More than a few people have told me that they see a resemblance between Matt Smith (the newly appointed 11th Doctor) and myself when I was younger. Below you’ll find a picture of Matt and a picture of a very young Irredeemable Shag. Other than the fact that we both have really bad hair in these photos and not-small noses, I don’t really see it. You be the judge.
Additionally, I thought a few of you might get a kick out of my 11th grade picture. In case you’re wondering, I don’t look like that anymore. That picture of me was taken 20 years ago. Wow… that means Matt was only 6 years old when I took that photo. Dang… I feel old now.

I was such a fashion victim of the 80’s. This particular picture is like some over exaggerated 1980’s flashback. Check out the Glam Metal hair, long bangs, the puka shell necklace, the hang-loose dangling earring, the Alex P. Keaton knit tie, the vest, and the Hard Rock Cafe pin. If this picture didn’t make me laugh so much, I’d probably be horribly embarrassed.

hey, some people would say you look ‘pretty’

Wow, could you have been any more of an eighties cliche? Like, gag me with a spoon!

No, no resemblance at all. You are much more manly and stud muffinish. He looks anorexic.

The “surprised-eye” certainly adds to the picture. Gives it an Anthony Michael Hall quality

you certainly did manage to cram an awful lot of 80’s elements into the frame of that single school photo. when i catch an 80’s teen comedy on tv these days – the fashion always seems so overdone. and then i see some of the retro photos being posted on facebook and i realize we looked every bit as over-the-top as the kids in those films.
as for a resemblance – i’ve always thought you looked a lot like this guy: http://images.salon.com/ent/tv/int/2007/02/16/maher/story.jpg

Hey gang – Thanks for all the comments.
Shockwave – LOL! The ghost of lunch periods past.
Butz – I’m not sure I see the resemblance with Bill, but I think he’s wickedly funny. And he’s in one of the greatest 80s movies of all time – House II: The Second Story!

Several are victims of the eighties retro phase. Unfortunately, were going to look back one day at the millennium years and gasp at the sight of ourselves again. Its a vicious cycle of fashion folds that will never see an end. Whats worse is what our children say about us when were not present! (I know I thought my parents were weird 20 yrs ago…)
