Cube Lube
comic books, games, humor November 17th, 2009I can’t make this kind of stuff up. Here is an advertisement for “Cube Lube” that ran in DC Comics cover dated June 1982. Though I understand the intention is innocent, I find it hard to believe this ran in a comic book targeted at children.

Now that I have a kid, I’m of two minds of this. Yes, I look at old comics with the Joker saying, “That’s such a boner!” etc. and chuckle. But I also know that the human mind is able to turn pretty much any word, concept, or phrase into obscenity. (“Whatcha doing?” “Peeling carrots.” “I bet you are! Heh heh…”) I (mildly) fear a future where nothing can be read without interpreting it as something dirty.
.
Of course, as ever, Penny Arcade got here before me.

I see nothing odd here….I don’t know if I could have won that Rubick’s Cube competition in 72 second if I hadn’t taken my cube apart, filed down all the rough edges and lubed it.
Come on…all the kids were doing it.
