Each month a group of us geeks get together to chat about comic books.  Our “Geek Lunch” consists of: Vanessa G. & E. Peterman (from Girls-Gone-Geek), C.T. (from Nerd Lunch), Choco Taco (life-long comic reader with uncanny foresight), David (the career student writing his thesis on comics), Lindsey (the cosplaying comic shop clerk), and myself.  This is a really great group of people and we have a blast during these lunches.  This time around, the Girls Gone Geek decided to record our ramblings and release them as their very first podcast!  The ladies did a phenomenal job editing down our chit-chat into an hour of solid comic talk.  Great job you geeky girls, and thanks for inviting me to your first of many podcasts!  Click here to visit Girls Gone Geek where you can download the podcast.

THE GEOFF JOHNS PODCAST hosted a two-part Christmas special entitled, “A Few of My Favorite Things”!  To drum up a little Christmas cheer, Kevin Cushing gathered a group of his favorite podcasters to talk about some favorite Geoff Johns stories. We also discuss what it might be like if Geoff wrote some Marvel books like Spider-Man and Iron Man. Kevin’s guests included: Brad Douglas, George Berryman, Josh Bertone, Zach “Spideydude” Joiner, and myself.  With this group you know there are plenty of entertaining tangents to be had (such as a discussion of the spinoffs from M*A*S*H, and YES there was more than one).

Listen up folks!  I recently appeared on an episode of VIEWS FROM THE LONGBOX!  In this episode Michael Bailey and I discuss DC’s Who’s Who: The Definitive Directory of the DC Universe. We cover everything Who’s Who related starting with the original 26 issue series and then getting into Update ’87, Update ’88, Who’s Who in the Legion of Super-Heroes, Who’s Who in Star Trek, the Binder series from 1990 to 1991, the Update ’93 from that series, the Impact Who’s Who and even the Mayfair Games binder set. It is about two hours of wall-to-wall reference material with a few personal interjections here and there.  I had a blast recording this one.  I hope you enjoy it too.

Do you love the old Star Wars comics from Marvel?  Then you need to check out Two True Freaks Star Wars Monthly Mondays! Hosts Scott Gardner and Chris Honeywell were kind enough to invite me to join them for Star Wars Monthly Monday #24 (Two True Freaks episode #144). In this episode we’re joined by Joshua Lapin-Bertone, host of another Star Wars Marvel Comics podcast.  This time out we tackled one of my absolute favorite Expanded Universe characters – PLIF!  Here is the description from their website:

In Episodes 28 and 31, Tom and Derrick celebrated the anniversary of one of their favorite television series, Doctor Who…since then, enough changes have occurred that The Boys Outta of Brooklyn has enlisted the aid of Views From The Longbox semi-lackey/co-host/Once Upon A Geek typewriter monkey (and perpetual Tom nemesis) Shag to provide an overview of the end of the Tennant era and the inaugural season of the eleventh Doctor, Matt Smith! The trio discuss–and sometimes argue over–such subjects as the magnificence of Donna, Rose vs. Amy, the identity of The Dream Lord, the value of Russell T. Davies’ Whedon-ization of the series, the Skittles Daleks and other juicy topics. Plus, what is The Casey Mulligan Road? What is The Caruso Box, and why is Christopher Eccholson stuck in it? What if Brian Cox and Dougray Scott owned a bar together? Podcasts with bowties are cool, so get to clicking!

Hosts Scott Gardner and Chris Honeywell were kind enough to invite me to join them for Star Wars Monthly Monday #20 (Two True Freaks episode #122).  In this episode we talked about Star Wars in general, and then reviewed Marvel Comics Star Wars issues #48-50 from 1981.  This included one of the BEST Marvel Star Wars comics and also one of the WORST! I’ve also appeared on a number of other podcasts over the past several months.  I’m a horrible friend.  My friends have been kind enough to invite me onto their shows, they’ve been excellent hosts, and then I failed to pimp their shows here.  I suck.  It’s been months and months and months since I last gave these guys a shout out.

This first batch of podcasts were all recorded with good buddy Michael Bailey (of Views from the Longbox, From Crisis to Crisis: A Superman Podcast, and Tales of the JSA).  He’s been kind enough to invite me to participate a number of times and I always enjoy bantering with him.  Some of these were recorded some time ago, so please forgive if they are covering things from a while back.

Episode 103 – Gerry Conway Interview (released April 2010)
We interviewed Gerry Conway, comics and TV legend! Gerry was extraordinarily generous with his time sitting down with us for about two hours. We tackled his entire comics and TV career, yet only scratched the surface of his body of work.  We discussed how Gerry started in comics, his work on Firestorm, Steel: The Indestructible Man, Justice League Detroit, the Superman vs. The Amazing Spider-Man crossover, Iron Man, DC during the Explosion and Implosion and much, much more. Episode 100 (released January – March 2010)
Mike invited me to help celebrate the centennial episode of Views from the Longbox!  We had a blast recording this monster of an episode.  It went on so long, Mike had to break it into three parts.

1997 in Comics (released December 2009)
Mike embarked on a fascinating 13-part journey reviewing comics from his first 13 years of collecting.  Each episode covered a single year, starting with ‘87 and working his way towards 1999.  In addition to covering the relevant comics from each year, Mike shared personal stories about his life and activities during these times. Mike was kind enough to invite me to join him covering 1997 – a very interesting years for comics. We talked about: Electro-Blue Superman, our comic collections, the Pulp Heroes (DC’s 1997 Annual event), The Kents, Secret Files and Origins, the death of Wonder Woman, the new Golden Age Wonder Woman, Superboy and the Ravers, the first appearance of Arrowette, Men in Black, Batman and Robin, Spawn, Steel, Heroes Return, Faces of the DCU, New Year’s Evil, Superman Red/Superman Blue, the return of Lex Luthor, Superman Secret Files and Origins #1, and much, much more.  It went so long, Mike had to break it into two parts.

Views from Sector 666 (released in March 2010, recorded in October 2009)
This time out I joined Mike and Thomas Deja (of DJ’s Comics Cavalcade and Better in the Dark) as we discussed the third month of Blackest Night books.  Issues specifically discussed include: Blackest Night #3, Green Lantern #46, Green Lantern Corps #40, Blackest Night Superman #2, Blackest Night Batman #2, and Blackest Night Titans #2.   The commentary is both fast and furious and everyone has some ranting time.  Oh, and I TOTALLY called Sinestro as the White Lantern.  Crazy!  Click here for more information.

If you haven’t already, go now and sign the petition to put BATGIRL: YEAR ONE the animated DVD back into production!  Stella from Batgirl to Oracle: The Barbara Gordon podcast has shouted from the rooftops and I recommend we mobilize on this.  Here are the details as provided by Stella:

In an interview with Bruce Timm on April 27, 2010, Timm states that:  “‘We had originally planned to do sequels for Wonder Woman and Green Lantern, but Wonder Woman’s sales started out extremely slow and then over time were eventually able to catch up to probably Justice League: New Frontier.” said Timm.  “The Exec’s decided because it wasn’t able to sell quickly right away, whereas Justice League was, that there wouldn’t be any more female super hero films right now. We were developing and hoping to get started on a ‘Batgirl’ film based on ‘Year One,’ but because of Wonder Woman’s slow sales start, that won’t be happening now.”

From Stella: Basically, not only is Batgirl canceled, but so is any other potential superheroine movie. This breaks my heart on so many levels and I think that, as a comic community, we can show Timm and Register that Batgirl would be an amazing production and it would sell! I believe that she reaches people whom Wonder Woman never could.

It literally takes 30 seconds to sign! The petition will be sent along with written letters to Bruce Timm, Sam Register, and other folks.
