Norman Rockwell “Taxes”

Normal Rockwell Taxes

In honor of tax day here in the United States, I thought I would post one of my favorite Norman Rockwell images.  It’s called “Taxes”, sometimes called “Income Taxes” or “Beating the Deadline”.  It was featured on the cover of The Saturday Evening Post on March 17, 1945.

I’m a big Norman Rockwell geek, so you may see more Rockwell images in the future on my blog.

One of the interesting things about this image is the calendar. It’s hard to read at this resolution, but it’s actually the calendar for March, not April.  Turns out that from 1918 – 1955, tax day was actually March 15.  It wasn’t until 1955 that it was moved to April.

Now you know… and knowing is half the battle!  Yo Bean-Counter Joe!

  1. I’m a very passive Rockwell fan. I don’t seek out his material but I admire, appreciate and dig it when I see it.

I say thee bring on thou Rockwell geekness, good sir.
