List Week: The 50 Greatest Villains in Literature

List WeekLIST WEEK continues here at ONCE UPON A GEEK!  Today’s list comes from the Telegraph newspaper and is ‘The 50 Greatest Villains in Literature‘.  My thanks to my buddy ‘lessthan12parsecs’ for posting this list to THE UNIQUE GEEK.  These literary villains hail from a variety of places, but there are definitely some folks with geek-cred here:

  • Moriarty from Sherlock Holmes at #46
  • The White Witch from The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe at #45
  • Cthulhu from The Call of Cthulhu at #26
  • Sauron from The Lord of the Rings at #25
  • Ernst Stavro Blofeld from James Bond at #22
  • Count Dracula at #13
  • Voldemort from the Harry Potter series at #5
  • and be sure to check out #23.  It’ll put a grin on your face.  🙂

  1. Several of those villains have appeared in films in recent years.
We can all argue that the book was better, but at least a new audience is being introduced to these great stories. Grab a kindle and go to town.
    I support this list.

  2. Great list but where is Shakespeare’s sinister megalomaniac Richard III? He is the most evil villain I’ve ever read in literature by far. I’m very surprised that he is not on this list.
