Calvin and Hobbes Manga-Style

Calvin and Hobbes

Here are some interesting manga-style interpretations of Calvin and Hobbes.  The recent Charlie Brown Manga-Style post seemed to spark a lot of discussion, so I thought I’d do another on one of my all-time favorites.  If you have any sense of humor or love for childhood, then Calvin and Hobbes is probably one of your favorites too.

Even though I’m not really a big fan of manga/anime, I find these images interesting.  Also, as a non-fan of manga, I can’t absolutely vouch that these art styles qualify as manga.  I can just attest that they came up in web searches as “manga”.

And just for for the Naruto fans, here is an April Fool’s Joke that was actually entertaining!

My thanks to Ravenface for directing me towards this post.  Also, if you listen carefully, you can probably hear Ed’s head explode as he sees the images above.  🙂

  1. I think this works very well for Calvin and Hobbes. The Charlie Brown tribute gave me the creeps, but this is true to the spirit of the C&H strip.

  2. As the manga expert here, allow me to define them. The first two can definately be define as manga style by the feel of realism that can be seen in them. the last two seem more cartoon style to me.

  3. These are really cool. I especially like what looks like a teenage Calvin. I always like seeing age progressed comics. I think a site devoted to this would be cool. Charlie Brown at age 50? That would be funny to see. At least the artist wouldn’t have to conjure up a hair-do (or lack thereof!).

    Cheers!

  4. I like these pictures of calvin&hobbes I really like the second one best friends I think it is really cool.I would read thier comics every sunday because its funny to read but now they are not in the sunday comics anymore so I have to get a comic book of calvin&hobbes to read.I wonder how garfield&odie would look like in manga style?

  5. Very nice. I always thought Bill Watterson’s style of drawing for Calvin and Hobbes sort of resembled the Japanese style anyway so this definitely fits. Calvin looks a lot like Ed from Fullmetal Alchemist in the top pic.
