TONIGHT! Torchwood – Children of Earth

After waiting over 14 months, tonight we finally get the next installment of Torchwood!  Instead of a 13-episode full season, we’re getting a five-part mini-series entitled, “Children Of Earth”.  This storyline airs over five consecutive nights – July 6 through 10 on the regular BBC, and July 20 through 24 on BBC America.  It’s disappointing that we only get five episodes, but I guess it’s better than nothing.  Below is a trailer for “Children of Earth”.

Here are previews for each episode, including SPOILERS.  This information comes from io9.  Remember, SPOILERS below.  You were warned.

Day One: An ordinary day becomes one of terror, as every single child in the world stops. A message is sent to all the governments of Earth: “We are coming.” But, as a trap closes around Captain Jack, the sins of the past are returning and long-forgotten events from 1965 threaten to reveal an awful truth.

Torchwood is forced underground as the government takes swift and brutal action. As members of the team are hunted down, Britain risks becoming a rogue state. Meanwhile, the mysterious and powerful 456 draws ever-closer.

Captain Jack, Gwen and Ianto are helpless as events escalate to such a degree that mankind faces the end of civilization itself.

Day Two: As the new Torchwood adventure continues, the team is forced underground when the government takes swift and brutal action. With members of the team being hunted down, only Lois holds the key to Torchwood’s salvation. But she is helpless as her superiors make plans for the mysterious Floor 13.

Day Three: The eyes of the world turn to Britain, as the 456 announce: “We are here,” as the new Torchwood adventure continues. As a pillar of fire descends upon London, the members of Torchwood must battle to protect their own families as the fight gets personal. But will Clem’s memories destroy everything?

Day Four: Torchwood finally learns the truth about the events of 1965, as the adventure continues. But Britain is in danger of becoming a rogue state, and everything now pivots around John Frobisher, as the Ambassador of the 456 destroys its old allegiances and reveals its true intent.

Day Five: Torchwood is defenseless and Gwen Cooper stands alone, as the final sanction begins, in the last part of the new Torchwood adventure. As violence erupts and the world descends into anarchy, an ordinary housing estate becomes a battleground, where the future of the human race will be decided.

Sounds great!  I can’t wait!

  1. Yeah I can’t wait either.
I was actually surprised to see this trailer at the theater Friday when I saw Transformers 2. At the Regal Theaters, they have stuff you can watch while you wait until the regular trailers and movie begins. TV trailers, movie trailers and other things are usually what they show. The trailer for Torchwood was in the mix for BBC America.

  2. Wow! I can’t believe they showed a Torchwood trailer in an American movie theater. How cool is that!!!!!

  3. Argghhh!!!! 2 down 3 to go. Wish they were shown all at once. Not sure how i’m gonna cope waiting 24 hours between each episode. Brilliant series so far

  4. What will happen to all the stuff that was kept in the hub, alien stuff, bodies, especially jacks brothers body which is only frozen, leaves alot of possibilities for next series…

  5. So – are the 456 actually the Macra?

    crabby claws,
    poisonous gas atmosphere
beginning to devolve into beasts with the occasional squealing and spraying

no idea why they’d want the children – food, or to work in mines?

  6. Is it just me or is this hyperventilated rubbish, masquerading as real drama? The too-loud music track, the general breathlessness of it – it’s all a bit much

  7. Having never been a fan of Torchwood, I felt it was definitely the best of the bunch so far.

I think they ended it all off pretty well, and it was a decent story.

But I do think it could have been condensed down into perhaps three episodes, as there was an awful lot of extremely slow scenes designed to pad out those 5 hours.

    Overall though, pretty darn good!

  8. Watched it all in one go, in USA, downloaded saturday – couldn’t stop watching, loved every second 🙂

  9. The 456 is soooo the Macra. I have a doctor who encyclopedia and i looked up the Macra and it said they live in a poisonous atmosphere and devolved over the years. They don’t eat the kids they will use them to mine the gases they need to live. AND there were 3 clues during the episode:
    1. Gwen said Gridlock (the episode you first saw the Macra in)
    2. The poisonous gases in the chamber
    3. The crab claws

  10. I am part way through Ep. 5, the last one, and was very disappointed to see it was written by Russell T Davies. The others were by Moran or RTD and Moran. Already major characters have been wiped out with no particular expansion, enemies who were obviously supposed to die horrible deaths have gone woosy and helpful, the dramatic music and boring speeches are swelling to fill all voids, and I just KNOW the ending of this ep. is going to be so bad its going to make me want to punch my fist through this screen.

Torchwood 1 was a deluge of average with occasional patches of intriguing zapness.

Torchwood 2 was an abomination before the universe and everyone involved in its creation should have been killed by now. Has this been done yet?

    Now this…..

    RTD. Die. Just. Please, die.

  11. I am gonna ignore the last post from ‘StopthisGarbageNOW’ as he/she is probably still wiping the egg off their face after seeing the last episode of ‘Children of Earth’. I sooo love Torchwood and put the suggestion to John Barrowman himself that the 456 Aliens were in fact the MACRA. He just looked at me with that knowing cheeky smile and said ‘Maybe Maybe’. Bring back Torchwood – us geeky sci-fi folk love it. RTD is a GOD. xx
