\"Yahtzee\"<\/a>Hello, my name is the Irredeemable Shag and I’m a closet Yahtzee<\/a> addict.\u00a0\u00a0That’s step one, right?<\/p>\n

I can’t speak authoritatively on this, but I don’t believe many people my age play Yahtzee<\/a>.\u00a0 I think there is a perception that it’s an old person’s game.\u00a0 Maybe I’m wrong, but that’s always been my belief.\u00a0 According to the official Yahtzee history on\u00a0Hasbro’s web site, about 100 million people play it on a regular basis.\u00a0 Apparently I don’t really know any of these people.<\/p>\n

I started playing Yahtzee<\/a> whenever I would visit my dad.\u00a0 He’s originally from Michigan, where all they do is play card and board games during the winter (my apologies to any Yankees in the audience).\u00a0 One night\u00a0he busted out the dice and announced\u00a0I was going to learn how to play Yahtzee.\u00a0 \u00a0It didn’t take long to grasp the game as it’s really just a form of poker, but with dice.\u00a0<\/p>\n

I rapidly found myself addicted to the game.\u00a0 Perhaps it has something to do with my background in RPGs.\u00a0 There is\u00a0something satisfying about the tactile sensation of rolling a handful of dice on a\u00a0table.\u00a0 The clink of the dice in your hand;\u00a0the sound as they hit the hard table and bounce a bit.\u00a0 It’s like\u00a0crack to gamers.<\/p>\n

It’s a fun game if you have at least two people.\u00a0 You can also buy a handheld electronic game version to play solo\u00a0(yes, I have one), or find online versions of the game to play solo.<\/p>\n

If you haven’t played Yahtzee, give it a try.\u00a0 All you really need is two people and 5d6 (that’s five regular six-sided dice to you non-gamers, like the kind you get in Monopoly).\u00a0 You can find a PDF of the official rules on the Hasbro web site (click here)<\/a>, and you can find a lots of different\u00a0free score sheets online\u00a0(click here)<\/a>.<\/p>\n
