{"id":127,"date":"2008-08-05T07:00:52","date_gmt":"2008-08-05T11:00:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/onceuponageek.com\/?p=127"},"modified":"2008-11-06T23:23:09","modified_gmt":"2008-11-07T03:23:09","slug":"flash-week-addendum","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/onceuponageek.com\/wordpress\/2008\/08\/05\/flash-week-addendum\/","title":{"rendered":"Flash Week Addendum"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Thanks to everyone who stopped by during FLASH WEEK.\u00a0 Based upon comments and unique visitors, it appears to have been well received.\u00a0 Just a few additional pieces worth mentioning that came up after last week &#8230;<\/p>\n<h3><a title=\"The Flash Companion\" href=\"http:\/\/twomorrows.com\/index.php?main_page=product_info&amp;products_id=660\" class=\"broken_link\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright\" style=\"float: right;\" src=\"http:\/\/onceuponageek.com\/images\/flash_comp.jpg\" alt=\"Flash Companion\" width=\"225\" height=\"291\" \/><\/a><a title=\"The Flash Companion\" href=\"http:\/\/twomorrows.com\/index.php?main_page=product_info&amp;products_id=660\" class=\"broken_link\">Flash Companion by TwoMorrows Publishing<\/a><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The highly-anticipated Flash Companion was recently published by TwoMorrows (the company that puts out the magazines &#8220;Back Issue&#8221; and &#8220;Alter Ego&#8221;).\u00a0 I just picked up my copy on Monday.\u00a0 I flipped through it quickly and was thoroughly impressed.\u00a0 If nothing else, it&#8217;s worth it for Craig Rousseau&#8217;s artistic tribute to Mike Wieringo on page 167 (yes, I teared up like a sissy when I saw it).\u00a0 It&#8217;s full of interviews and analysis on all the various incarnations of the Flash.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">You can also hear some of the inside scope on this book by listening to my buddy Michael Bailey&#8217;s podcast, &#8220;<a title=\"Views from the Longbox\" href=\"http:\/\/fortressofbaileytude.com\/viewsfromthelongbox\/\" class=\"broken_link\">Views from the Longbox<\/a>&#8220;.\u00a0 He interviewed the editor Keith Dallas and had a great discussion; well worth your time.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a title=\"Views from the Longbox: The Keith Dallas Conversation Part 1\" href=\"http:\/\/fortressofbaileytude.com\/viewsfromthelongbox\/?p=10\" class=\"broken_link\">Views from the Longbox: The Keith Dallas Conversation Part 1<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a title=\"Views from the Longbox: The Keith Dallas Conversation Part 2\" href=\"http:\/\/fortressofbaileytude.com\/viewsfromthelongbox\/?p=12\" class=\"broken_link\">Views from the Longbox: The Keith Dallas Conversation Part 2<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><a title=\"Comic Book Resources Spotlight on Ethan Van Sciver\" href=\"http:\/\/www.comicbookresources.com\/?page=article&amp;id=17542\">Update on the future of Wally West<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>During a recent <a title=\"Comic Book Resources Spotlight on Ethan Van Sciver\" href=\"http:\/\/www.comicbookresources.com\/?page=article&amp;id=17542\">Comic Book Resources interview, Ethan Van Sciver<\/a> (artist of the upcoming &#8220;Flash: Rebirth&#8221;) mentioned he&#8217;s working on a redesign for Wally&#8217;s costume.\u00a0 So I guess that confirms that Barry will retain the classic Flash costume, while Wally will undergo some form of alteration to his uniform.\u00a0 Kind of bums me out.\u00a0 I just hope Wally&#8217;s new uniform doesn&#8217;t look goofy.\u00a0 It wouldn&#8217;t surprise me if Wally ends up with an open cowl exposing his red hair (like he had in his Kid Flash costume).<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Are there any changes in store for current Flash Wally West&#8217;s costume?<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m redesigning Wally West&#8217;s costume right now, and it&#8217;s terrifying.&#8221; While Sinestro&#8217;s costume, with its seemingly random blue color and &#8220;jester collar,&#8221; was ready for a redesign in Van Sciver&#8217;s eyes, &#8220;Wally West is the most perfectly designed costume ever, aside from Green Lantern&#8217;s costume, in my opinion.&#8221; Van Sciver said the challenge was to redo the costume without either making it less cool or more cool than Barry Allen&#8217;s and thus implying that one character is better than the other.<\/p>\n<p>Noting some audience member&#8217;s skepticism about bringing Barry back at all, Van Sciver explained his motivation for doing so. &#8220;I want Barry to come back and be King Arthur. He&#8217;s the most straight-laced, perfect Flash, rigid in his morality and his ethics,&#8221; making the looser, cooler, more laid-back Wally a Lancelot figure. Van Sciver told the audience &#8220;Kick me in the ass if I fail.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h3><a title=\"SpeedForce.org\" href=\"http:\/\/speedforce.org\/2008\/08\/linkage-flash-week\/\">Speed Force.org<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>Finally, my thanks to Kelson over at <a title=\"SpeedForce.org\" href=\"http:\/\/speedforce.org\/2008\/08\/linkage-flash-week\/\">Speed Force.org<\/a> for pimping FLASH WEEK here at ONCE UPON A GEEK.\u00a0 I really enjoy his blog and appreciate his support.\u00a0 If it weren&#8217;t for his blog, I wouldn&#8217;t have heard about the Comic Book Resources interview with
