{"id":134,"date":"2008-08-18T07:00:36","date_gmt":"2008-08-18T11:00:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/onceuponageek.com\/?p=134"},"modified":"2009-07-27T21:35:24","modified_gmt":"2009-07-28T01:35:24","slug":"comic-book-t-shirt-gallery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/onceuponageek.com\/wordpress\/2008\/08\/18\/comic-book-t-shirt-gallery\/","title":{"rendered":"Comic Book T-shirt Gallery"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">I bought a new comic book t-shirt this weekend at Kohls and it got me thinking about what to wear to Dragon*Con.\u00a0 I looked through my closet and was amazed at how many comic book t-shirts I had amassed.\u00a0 I mean seriously, these things pile up.\u00a0 Back when I managed a comic book store, you could consider\u00a0 these to be work clothes.\u00a0 Nowadays, I don&#8217;t get many chances to wear these t-shirts.\u00a0 So I decided they needed to see the light of day one way or another.\u00a0 Therefore, today and tomorrow you get to stroll through my wardrobe.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Over the past 15 years, I have gotten so many t-shirts that I&#8217;ve split them across two days.\u00a0 Today I&#8217;ll be showing off my new shirt, Marvel comics shirts, Scud the Disposable Assassin shirts, and Astro City t-shirt.\u00a0 Some designs were purchased pre-faded (or pre-stressed).\u00a0 Unless specifically mentioned, assume any fading occurred naturally with these shirts.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">To see the other comic book t-shirts I&#8217;ve previously displayed here at ONCE UPON A GEEK, please <a title=\"Comic Book T-shirts on Once Upon a Geek\" href=\"http:\/\/onceuponageek.com\/tag\/t-shirt\/\">click here<\/a> and then scroll down.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/onceuponageek.com\/images\/shirt_jla3.JPG\" alt=\"JLA Shirt\" width=\"500\" height=\"499\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Here is my new shirt!\u00a0 The image is of the late-Bronze Age Justice League of America (with a few extras thrown in for good measure).\u00a0 I love the strong white outline on each character; it&#8217;s really sharp.\u00a0 Also, it&#8217;s nice to have Aquaman, Flash, and Firestorm all on one shirt!\u00a0 This is\u00a0 the second officially-licensed shirt I&#8217;m aware of that features Firestorm. Poor Matchhead, he doesn&#8217;t get much play.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/onceuponageek.com\/images\/shirt_marvel1.JPG\" alt=\"Marvel T-Shirt\" width=\"375\" height=\"500\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Cool Marvel Comics t-shirt bought by family a couple years ago.\u00a0 Certain parts are high gloss (like Cap&#8217;s shield).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/onceuponageek.com\/images\/shirt_marvel2.JPG\" alt=\"Marvel T-shirt\" width=\"500\" height=\"219\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Pre-faded Marvel t-shirt from Target bought by my wife and kids within the past year or so.\u00a0 The faces are very reminiscent of the 1980s corner box images.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/onceuponageek.com\/images\/shirt_dd.JPG\" alt=\"Daredevil Yellow\" width=\"300\" height=\"500\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">&#8220;Daredevil Yellow&#8221; t-shirt by Tim Sale.\u00a0 I bought this shortly after the series because I&#8217;ve always loved Daredevil&#8217;s original costume.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/onceuponageek.com\/images\/shirt_spidey1.JPG\" alt=\"Spider-Man Andy Warhol style\" width=\"374\" height=\"500\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Andy Warhol-style Spider-Man shirt.\u00a0 I believe this is Mark Bagley art from his original run on Amazing Spider-Man.\u00a0 I wore the heck out of this shirt in the mid-1990s.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/onceuponageek.com\/images\/shirt_x-factor.JPG\" alt=\"Havok from X-Factor\" width=\"482\" height=\"500\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Havok from X-Factor drawn by Joe Quesada.\u00a0 I bought this shirt around the time he was drawing X-Factor, long before his tenure as Editor-in-Chief of Marvel Comics.\u00a0 The faded design on this shirt is genuine.\u00a0 Because I enjoyed Peter David&#8217;s run on X-Factor so much, I wore this shirt all the time.\u00a0 Once it started to fade, it became a frequent nightshirt.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/onceuponageek.com\/images\/shirt_x-men.JPG\" alt=\"X-Mean Xtinction Agenda\" width=\"465\" height=\"500\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Jim Lee Xtinction Agenda shirt.\u00a0 Got this for my birthday around the time this story was published.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/onceuponageek.com\/images\/shirt_astro.JPG\" alt=\"Astro City\" width=\"488\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Fantastic Scud t-shirt I bought back in the 1990&#8217;s (when Scud was being published the first time around).\u00a0 Back then you didn&#8217;t have internet shopping; you had to order shirts like this via the mail from an ad in the back of the comic book.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/onceuponageek.com\/images\/shirt_scud2.JPG\" alt=\"Scud The Disposable Assassin\" width=\"425\" height=\"500\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Another Scud t-shirt I bought back in the 1990&#8217;s.\u00a0 The stress on this shirt is genuine.\u00a0 I did everything I could to get people to read Scud, even promoted it on my own body.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/onceuponageek.com\/images\/shirt_scud3.JPG\" alt=\"Scud The Disposable Assassin\" width=\"500\" height=\"344\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Another Scud t-shirt.\u00a0 The primary image above is the back of the shirt, with the insert being the front left-hand side.\u00a0 This shirt was designed to look similar to the body of the Scud robot.\u00a0 The only downside to this shirt was that it was bright yellow.\u00a0 It takes a brave man to wear a bright yellow shirt.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/onceuponageek.com\/images\/shirt_scud4.JPG\" alt=\"Drywall from Scud the Disposable Assassin\" width=\"372\" height=\"500\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Drywall, Scud&#8217;s sidekick.\u00a0 Great shirt!\u00a0 Very colorful and fun!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/onceuponageek.com\/images\/shirt_jersey.JPG\" alt=\"Diamond Comics Marvel Baseball Jersey\" width=\"451\" height=\"500\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">This is a fairly unusual one.\u00a0 I got this for attending Diamond Comics 11th Annual Retailers Seminar.\u00a0 It was held in Baltimore in 1994.\u00a0 Diamond Comics distributes the majority of comic books in the United States.\u00a0 That particular year they took us to a Baltimore Orioles game; thus the baseball jerseys.\u00a0 Very cool!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/onceuponageek.com\/images\/shirt_tony.JPG\" alt=\"Tony Was Right\" width=\"500\" height=\"364\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">As promised in a previous blog entry, here is my &#8220;Tony Was Right&#8221; t-shirt!\u00a0 I can&#8217;t wait to wear this to Dragon*Con!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">There were a few other comic book t-shirts I owned previously that I&#8217;ve gotten rid of over the years.\u00a0 A few that spring to mind:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A Rob Liefeld drawn &#8220;New Mutants&#8221; shirt from around the time of issue #90.\u00a0 This was before his art got too wild.\u00a0 If you exclude Superman t-shirts as a kid, this was the first comic book t-shirt I ever owned.<\/li>\n<li>A mega-print shirt of Jae Lee&#8217; Doctor Doom from the &#8220;Namor&#8221; comic book series.\u00a0 Mega-print shirts were all the rage in the 90&#8217;s.\u00a0 A mega-print shirt would feature one primary image that had been blown up to cover the entire shirt.\u00a0 For example, this Doctor Doom shirt featured a close-up of Doom&#8217;s face, but was blown up so the image spread to the entire shirt (including the sleeves), and was then repeated on the back side.<\/li>\n<li>A mega-print shirt of Todd McFarlane&#8217;s Spider-Man.<\/li>\n<li>A Kyle Rayner Green Lantern t-shirt.\u00a0 Essentially designed to look somewhat like Kyle&#8217;s original uniform.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Hope you&#8217;ve enjoyed this installment of &#8220;Shag&#8217;s Closet&#8221;.\u00a0 Come
