Dynamite is releasing a new comic book mini-series this September based around the failed spin-off Galactica 1980<\/em><\/a>.\u00a0 Seriously?\u00a0 Somebody, somewhere thought this was a good idea?\u00a0 Galactica 1980<\/em> was the universally-despised sequel to the original Battlestar Galactica<\/em> TV series.\u00a0 The show lasted a whopping 10 episodes, while the original Battlestar Galactica<\/em> lasted 21 episodes.\u00a0 Writer Marc Guggenheim is reimagining the Galactica 1980<\/em> story, so hopefully he can ignore things like Cylons being disabled simply due to their proximity to a microwave oven.\u00a0 While he’s reimagining the story, it seems he’s still sticking with the same characters and likenesses; he’s not going to incorporate the modern-day Battlestar Galactica<\/em> items into the story.\u00a0 In fact, the cover to issue #1 is total photo reference rip-off of the Galactica 1980 <\/em>DVD (see below).<\/p>\n

All kidding aside, I’m a bit of a sucker for Galactica 1980<\/em>.\u00a0 I can’t explain it, but I really enjoyed this series as a child.\u00a0 Perhaps it was the ridiculous flying motorcycles or the invisible vipers, who knows.\u00a0 Regardless of how silly the overall series was, the final episode “The Return of Starbuck” was quite good. It was a decent send off to a cool character.<\/p>\n
