Studios\" href=\"http:\/\/www.boom-studios.net\/eureka-tpb.html\"><em>Eureka<\/em> graphic novel from BOOM! Studios<\/a>.\u00a0 I was pretty exited to see the story was by the <em>Eureka <\/em>TV show creators Andrew Cosby and Jaime Paglia.\u00a0 That tells you right away that it&#8217;ll be faithful to the series.\u00a0 In interviews the creators have referred to their <em>Eureka <\/em>comic work as Season 1.5 of the TV show, and that the comics should be considered official <em>Eureka<\/em> continuity.\u00a0 As a fan of the TV series and an avid comic reader, I was pretty thrilled about this!\u00a0 This story was originally published as a four-issue mini-series and then collected.\u00a0 It was to be the first of four <em>Eureka <\/em>graphic novels, however, only two have been produced to date.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"Eureka graphic novel from BOOM! Studios\" src=\"http:\/\/onceuponageek.com\/images\/trade_eureka.jpg\" alt=\"Eureka graphic novel from BOOM! Studios\" width=\"388\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Here is the graphic novel description from BOOM! Studios:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>Sci-Fi Channel\u2019s smash hit TV show comes to BOOM! The first arc of Eureka is collected in this volume, masterminded by the creators of the show and told completely in continuity! It\u2019s a game of cat and mouse when Sheriff Cater is on the hunt for an escapee from Global Dynamics. But what connection does this dangerous stranger have to Carter\u2019s partner, Jo Lupo?\u00a0 Story by Andrew Cosby and Jaime Paglia, Script by Brendan Hay, Art by Diego Barreto, and Cover Art by J.K. Woodward. \u00a0 112 pages, Full color, 9\u2033 x 6\u2033, MSRP $15.99<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Overall this was a good read.\u00a0 The story was solid, the characterization was dead-on, there was a good dose of humor, and it truly felt like an episode of the TV series.\u00a0 We get to see most of the show regulars, such as: Sheriff Carter, Allison Blake, Deputy Jo Lupo, Zoe Carter, Nathan Stark, Henry Deacon, Douglas Fargo, Vincent, and even Taggart.\u00a0\u00a0 A major portion of the plot revolves around Jo Lupo&#8217;s past, which is nice to see explored here.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">One of the chapters (or issues depending on how you look at it) featured a cliffhanger ending with the surprise return of Warren King.\u00a0 That&#8217;s right, Warren King!\u00a0 I know what you&#8217;re thinking, Warren King!\u00a0 Seriously!\u00a0 Wow!\u00a0 &#8230; &#8230; okay, I didn&#8217;t know who he was either.\u00a0 I had completely forgotten that the Director of Global Dynamics in the pilot episode was Warren King.\u00a0 Remembering that character was made even more difficult by the interior art.\u00a0 The panel layouts, action, and storytelling are all fine in the comic, but the artist did a poor job capturing the likenesses of the actors.\u00a0 With the obscurity of the character and the weak art, I&#8217;m not sure anyone could have got the full effect intended in the cliffhanger.\u00a0 By contrast, the painted covers for the individual issues, which were presented in the graphic novel, are really gorgeous.\u00a0 The covers capture the spirit of the show as well as the likenesses of the characters.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Overall, any fan of the <em>Eureka <\/em>TV series would enjoy this graphic novel.\u00a0 I would say this story is the equivalent of one really good episode of the TV show.\u00a0 However, at the price of $15.99 for the graphic novel, I&#8217;m not sure it&#8217;s worth it.\u00a0 After all, you can get an entire season of <em>Eureka <\/em>on Amazon.com right now for $21.99.\u00a0 My recommendation, borrow the graphic novel from a friend.<\/p>\n<div class=\"sharedaddy sd-sharing-enabled\"><div class=\"robots-nocontent sd-block sd-social sd-social-icon-text sd-sharing\"><h3 class=\"sd-title\">Tell the world about ONCE UPON A GEEK:<\/h3><div class=\"sd-content\"><ul><li class=\"share-twitter\"><a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" data-shared=\"sharing-twitter-2738\" class=\"share-twitter sd-button share-icon\" href=\"http:\/\/onceuponageek.com\/wordpress\/2010\/02\/10\/review-eureka-graphic-novel\/?share=twitter\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Click to share on Twitter\"><span>Twitter<\/span><\/a><\/li><li class=\"share-facebook\"><a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" data-shared=\"sharing-facebook-2738\" class=\"share-facebook sd-button share-icon\" href=\"http:\/\/onceuponageek.com\/wordpress\/2010\/02\/10\/review-eureka-graphic-novel\/?share=facebook\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Click to share on Facebook\"><span>Facebook<\/span><\/a><\/li><li class=\"share-email\"><a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" data-shared=\"\" class=\"share-email sd-button share-icon\" href=\"http:\/\/onceuponageek.com\/wordpress\/2010\/02\/10\/review-eureka-graphic-novel\/?share=email\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Click to email this to a friend\"><span>Email<\/span><\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"#\" class=\"sharing-anchor sd-button share-more\"><span>More<\/span><\/a><\/li><li class=\"share-end\"><\/li><\/ul><div class=\"sharing-hidden\"><div class=\"inner\" style=\"display: none;\"><ul><li class=\"share-reddit\"><a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" data-shared=\"\" class=\"share-reddit sd-button share-icon\" href=\"http:\/\/onceuponageek.com\/wordpress\/2010\/02\/10\/review-eureka-graphic-novel\/?share=reddit\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Click to share on Reddit\"><span>Reddit<\/span><\/a><\/li><li class=\"share-linkedin\"><a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" data-shared=\"sharing-linkedin-2738\" class=\"share-linkedin sd-button share-icon\" href=\"http:\/\/onceuponageek.com\/wordpress\/2010\/02\/10\/review-eureka-graphic-novel\/?share=linkedin\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Click to share on LinkedIn\"><span>LinkedIn<\/span><\/a><\/li><li class=\"share-end\"><\/li><li class=\"share-end\"><\/li><\/ul><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>While on the cruise, I finally got around to reading the Eureka graphic novel from BOOM!
