{"id":3046,"date":"2010-03-25T07:00:33","date_gmt":"2010-03-25T11:00:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/onceuponageek.com\/?p=3046"},"modified":"2010-03-22T22:10:52","modified_gmt":"2010-03-23T02:10:52","slug":"batman-r-i-p-may-it-rest-in-pieces","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/onceuponageek.com\/wordpress\/2010\/03\/25\/batman-r-i-p-may-it-rest-in-pieces\/","title":{"rendered":"Batman R.I.P., May it Rest in Pieces"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"Batman: R.I.P.\" src=\"http:\/\/onceuponageek.com\/images\/batman-rip.jpg\" alt=\"Batman: R.I.P.\" width=\"500\" height=\"350\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Just read <em>Batman: R.I.P.<\/em> from cover-to-cover.\u00a0 After 208 pages I&#8217;m left feeling &#8230; meh.\u00a0 I know there are lots of Grant Morrison devotees out there screaming at my words right now.\u00a0 I&#8217;m sure they&#8217;re frothing at the mouth about things like, &#8220;brilliant sub-text&#8221;, &#8220;metaphysical mind games&#8221;, or some such nonsense.\u00a0 For me it boils down to this, Grant Morrison wrote a disorienting story that once again explored Batman&#8217;s sanity, while at the same time shoved in 70 years of best-left-forgotten continuity.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Being an old school comics fan, I&#8217;ll admit it was fun to see some of the pre-Crisis ideas again (like the <a title=\"Batman of Zur-En-Arrh\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Batman_of_Zur-En-Arrh\">Batman of Zur-En-Arrh<\/a>).\u00a0 While it was cute, I still think they were best left alone.\u00a0 You get the sense that DC intended this story to be a big deal and talked about for years to come, but it failed to deliver on content.\u00a0 Sure there were some great moments, especially with the Joker, but I still couldn&#8217;t care less about Doctor Hurt and the Black Glove. Also the ending was anti-climatic and unfortunately wrapped too-much into the train wreck known as <em>Final Crisis<\/em>.
