My wife and children surprised me last week with a fantastic geek find.\u00a0 While perusing a collection of used books, they found a cute little Return of the Jedi<\/em> tie-in book entitled The Ewoks Save the Day<\/em>.\u00a0 This is a pop-up book that was produced in 1983.\u00a0 It’s super fun and super cute.\u00a0 Here are some photos of the book.\u00a0 These photos don’t cover every page, but they do cover the better ones.<\/p>\n

And yes, those are my original 1977 Star Wars<\/em> bed sheets in the background!\u00a0 My step-son sleeps on them nowadays.\u00a0 Makes me proud.<\/p>\n

It may be difficult to tell, but the hanging net above actually swings across the page as you open the book.\u00a0 Very cool!\u00a0 I love how the book refers to the second Death Star throughout as “Death Star 2”.\u00a0 Makes me want to say, “Death Star 2: Electric Boogaloo” in honor of Chocotaco.<\/p>\n

The pop-up engineering above is pretty neat.\u00a0 As you open the page, the logs come up and then settle near the AT-ST’s feet.\u00a0 Very nice way to capture the spirit of the film.<\/p>\n

When I read the page above, I can’t help thinking, “Hey Chewie… it’s okay to love the Ewoks, just don’t love <\/em><\/strong>the Ewoks.” … or …”Theirs was a forbidden love.”<\/p>\n

Cute book, but if you’re like me you can’t help wondering, “Was it better than the TV movies The Ewok Adventure<\/em> and Ewoks: The Battle for Endor<\/em>?”\u00a0 And if you’re like me… then I feel pity for you that a question like that actually crossed your mind.<\/p>\n

Here is a shot of the pattern on my 1977 Star Wars<\/em> bed sheets.\u00a0 In college, my roommate and I used these sheets to cover our ugly couch.\u00a0 I tried that with my wife, but it didn’t work out so well.\u00a0 She made me go and buy a new couch instead.<\/p>\n
