{"id":3195,"date":"2010-04-21T06:45:54","date_gmt":"2010-04-21T10:45:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/onceuponageek.com\/?p=3195"},"modified":"2010-04-19T01:08:13","modified_gmt":"2010-04-19T05:08:13","slug":"star-wars-resume-comic-books","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/onceuponageek.com\/wordpress\/2010\/04\/21\/star-wars-resume-comic-books\/","title":{"rendered":"Star Wars Resume &#8211; Comic Books"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Continuing my <a title=\"Star Wars Resume\" href=\"http:\/\/onceuponageek.com\/tag\/star-wars-resume\/\"><em>Star Wars Resume<\/em><\/a>!\u00a0 In the summer of 1981, I discovered <em>Star Wars<\/em> comic books.\u00a0 Prior to then I&#8217;d picked up an issue or two like any kid might have picked up <em>Archie<\/em> or <em>Sad Sack<\/em>.\u00a0 When I bought <a title=\"Marvel Comics Star Wars #50\" href=\"http:\/\/www.comics.org\/issue\/35581\/cover\/4\/?style=default\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">Marvel Comics <em>Star Wars<\/em> #50<\/a> off the shelf, I knew I was buying something different.\u00a0 This wasn&#8217;t just some throw away tale for kids, this comic was packed with great storytelling, amazing art, and expanded the <em>Star Wars<\/em> universe.\u00a0 From that point I stuck with the Marvel series, eventually buying all the issues (some of the harder to find issues I got in trade paperback format). Once the Marvel title ended in 1986 at issue #107, there really wasn&#8217;t a <em>Star Wars<\/em> comic book outlet.\u00a0 I moved on with my comic reading interests, always with a fond memory towards those adventures.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Then in late 1991, shortly after the publication of the novel <em>Heir to the Empire<\/em>, Dark Horse comics obtained the license to produce <em>Star Wars<\/em> comics.\u00a0 They started with <a title=\"Star Wars Dark Empire\" href=\"http:\/\/www.comics.org\/series\/14507\/covers\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\"><em>Star Wars: Dark Empire<\/em><\/a>.\u00a0 Wow, what a series!\u00a0 My friends and I nitpicked it, but really we loved the heck out of it.\u00a0 It was an epic tale with amazing art.\u00a0 Some of the plot points still don&#8217;t sit well with me, like the cloned Emperor, but I&#8217;m willing to forgive that given the importance of this series.\u00a0 This was the first new <em>Star Wars<\/em> comic in six years and spawned Dark Horse&#8217;s <em>Star Wars<\/em> comic line that remains in publication today.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">For me personally, I enjoy the comics that take place after <em>A New Hope<\/em>.\u00a0 My favorites include: the aforementioned <a title=\"Marvel Comics Star Wars\" href=\"http:\/\/www.comics.org\/series\/2406\/covers\/?style=default&amp;page=2\" class=\"broken_link\">Marvel Comics series<\/a> (specifically issues #49 &#8211; 81, set between <em>The Empire Strikes Back<\/em> and <em>Return of the Jedi<\/em>), Dark Horse&#8217;s <a title=\"Star Wars: Empire\" href=\"http:\/\/www.comics.org\/series\/16442\/covers\/\" class=\"broken_link\"><em>Star Wars: Empire<\/em><\/a> &amp; <a title=\"Star Wars: Rebellion\" href=\"http:\/\/www.comics.org\/series\/17738\/covers\/\" class=\"broken_link\"><em>Star Wars: Rebellion<\/em><\/a> (both set between <em>A New Hope<\/em> and <em>The Empire Strikes Back<\/em>), Dark Horse&#8217;s <a title=\"Classic Star Wars\" href=\"http:\/\/www.comics.org\/series\/4529\/covers\/\" class=\"broken_link\"><em>Classic Star Wars<\/em><\/a> (reprints the old newspaper strips from the early 1980s), and Dark Horse&#8217;s current title <a title=\"Star Wars Legacy\" href=\"http:\/\/starwars.wikia.com\/wiki\/Star_Wars:_Legacy\" class=\"broken_link\"><em>Star Wars Legacy<\/em><\/a> (takes place 125 years after <em>Return of the Jedi<\/em>).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">I now own well over 350 hundred <em>Star Wars<\/em> comics.\u00a0 Below you&#8217;ll see all my Star Wars comics stacked up, along with some of my Expanded Universe action figures.\u00a0 Click the image to enlarge.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/onceuponageek.com\/images\/starwars_resume_comics2.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"Star Wars comic books - Marvel and Dark Horse\" src=\"http:\/\/onceuponageek.com\/images\/starwars_resume_comics1.jpg\" alt=\"Star Wars comic books - Marvel and Dark Horse\" width=\"520\" height=\"261\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Here are the Expanded Universe toys in the picture above:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>Grand Admiral Thrawn and Mara Jade from the Timothy Zahn novels and comic adaptations;<\/li>\n<li>Micro-machine ships from <em>Shadows of the Empire<\/em>: Hound&#8217;s Tooth (Bossk&#8217;s ship), Outrider (Dash Rendar&#8217;s ship), IG-2000 (IG-88&#8217;s ship), and Stinger (Guri&#8217;s ship);<\/li>\n<li>Swoop Bike and rider, Dash Rendar, Prince Xizor, Luke Skywalker in Imperial Guard Disguise, and Chewbacca in Bounty Hunter Disguise from the <em>Shadows of the Empire<\/em> novel and comic adaptation;
