{"id":3792,"date":"2010-07-15T06:45:33","date_gmt":"2010-07-15T10:45:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/onceuponageek.com\/?p=3792"},"modified":"2010-07-14T00:46:08","modified_gmt":"2010-07-14T04:46:08","slug":"pins-from-marvel-comics-independents-comics-movies-and-tv","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/onceuponageek.com\/wordpress\/2010\/07\/15\/pins-from-marvel-comics-independents-comics-movies-and-tv\/","title":{"rendered":"Pins from Marvel Comics, Independents Comics, Movies, and TV"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">As mentioned yesterday, I was a big fan of comic-related pins in the late-80s and through the mid-90s.\u00a0 <a title=\"Pins from DC Comics\" href=\"http:\/\/onceuponageek.com\/2010\/07\/14\/pins-from-dc-comics\/\" target=\"_blank\">Yesterday we featured pins from DC Comics<\/a>, today we&#8217;re going to feature pins from Marvel Comics, independent comic companies, movies, and TV.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Thankfully comic companies were generous  with giveaway pins and also sold some nice quality cloisonne pins.  Cloisonne pins are small decorative pins worn on the lapel of a coat or  shirt collar. Typically these pins are made from metal and enamel.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Below is a collection of my pins that  relate to Marvel Comics and other independent comic publishers&#8230;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"Pins from Marvel Comics, Valiant Comics, Malibu Comics, and more\" src=\"http:\/\/onceuponageek.com\/images\/button3.jpg\" alt=\"Pins from Marvel Comics, Valiant Comics, Malibu Comics, and more\" width=\"700\" height=\"461\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Here are the pins shown above:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>On the left-hand side in the middle are two Spider-Man plastic pins.\u00a0 I still wear the Santa Spidey during the Christmas season.<\/li>\n<li>Next to Spidey is a Ghost Rider plastic pin with reflective gold paint.<\/li>\n<li>Above that is a unusual Hulk cloisonne pin.\u00a0 It&#8217;s labeled &#8220;Marvel Mania Hollywood&#8221;, but I got it from a bus driver in Orlando.\u00a0 Not entirely sure what this pin is about.<\/li>\n<li>Towards the bottom on the left-hand side are cloisonne pins of <em>Doom 2009<\/em> and <em>Daredevil<\/em>.\u00a0 In the middle is a cloisonne pin of Gambit in standard X-Men blue and gold<\/li>\n<li>At the top right you&#8217;ve got the Evil Ernie &#8220;Have a Psychotic Day&#8221; button from <em>Chaos! Comics<\/em>.<\/li>\n<li>Beneath that are cloisonne pins of the <em>Malibu Comics<\/em> logo and <em>Diamond Comics<\/em> logo.\u00a0 Finally next to those is Valiant&#8217;s <em>Shadowman <\/em>cloisonne pin.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Next up are geeky movie or TV related pins&#8230;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"Movie and TV related buttons\" src=\"http:\/\/onceuponageek.com\/images\/button1.jpg\" alt=\"Movie and TV related buttons\" width=\"700\" height=\"562\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Here are the pins shown above:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>In the top left-hand corner you&#8217;ve got a <em>Star Wars Episode I<\/em> pin from Random House to help promote reading.<\/li>\n<li>In the bottom left-hand corner you&#8217;ve got a pin promoting the <em>Star Wars Trilogy Special Edition<\/em> in 1997 that was distributed to movie theater staff to wear.<\/li>\n<li>In the middle top and bottom are two <em>Star Wars<\/em> Fan Club items from the late 1970s.\u00a0 You&#8217;ve got the metal C-3PO pendant (which doubled as an earring for me in the 80s) and a <em>Star Wars<\/em> Fan Club patch.\u00a0 In case you didn&#8217;t know, patches were huge in the 70s.<\/li>\n<li>In the middle bottom is a Darth Vader cloisonne pin.<\/li>\n<li>The top right-hand corner features a <em>Superman: The Animated Series<\/em> pin promoting the show on the WB network.<\/li>\n<li>In the middle right-hand side is a neat <em>Rocketeer <\/em>&#8220;Thrill Club&#8221; pin.\u00a0 Cool look and shape to this pin.<\/li>\n<li>Finally in the bottom right-hand corner is another pin that came with the Press Kit for the 1989 <em>Batman <\/em>movie.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Finally we&#8217;ve got a few <em>Doctor Who<\/em> related pins&#8230;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"Doctor Who pins\" src=\"http:\/\/onceuponageek.com\/images\/button2.jpg\" alt=\"Doctor Who pins\" width=\"700\" height=\"606\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Here are the pins shown above:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>The <em>Doctor Who Fan Club of America<\/em> pin is temperature sensitive.\u00a0 When I first got this pin I would try all kinds of crazy temperature experiments (i.e. putting it in the freezer, under a hot light bulb, etc).<\/li>\n<li>In the top right is the small Ice Warrior cloisonne pin.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve always had a weakness for the Ice Warriors.\u00a0 I hope they bring them back in the new series soon.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">And finally the red question mark pin.\u00a0 I wore this pin more than any other.\u00a0 It wasn&#8217;t obviously from <em>Doctor Who<\/em>, so I felt I could wear it without singling myself out as a Whovian.\u00a0 I also like the idea of demonstrating my inquisitiveness.\u00a0 It certainly drew some attention over the years.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>That&#8217;s it for my geeky pins.\u00a0 If you&#8217;d like to share a geeky pin of
