Welcome to the first day of Mayfairstivus<\/strong>!\u00a0 This holiday event lasting nine days celebrates Mayfair Games\u2019 DC Heroes Role-Playing Game<\/a>!<\/em> From 1985-1993 this was one of the premier superhero role-playing games!<\/p>\n

A holiday event in December lasting nine days?\u00a0 Hmmm…\u00a0 Okay, you caught us.\u00a0 A few comic bloggers decided to use this year’s Hanukkah celebration as an excuse to post content from Mayfair\u2019s long-running DC Heroes<\/em> line.\u00a0 There will be a few different blogs participating, so check the links below for more Mayfairstivus activities (with apologies to the Costanza family<\/a>). \u00a0 Many thanks go out to mastermind Frank Lee Delano (of the blogs: Martian Manhunter: Idol-Head of Diabolu<\/em><\/a>, Justice League Detroit<\/em><\/a>, Atom: Power of the Atom<\/em><\/a>, Wonder Woman: Diana Prince<\/em><\/a>, DC Bloodlines<\/a><\/em>, and \u2026nurgh\u2026<\/em><\/a>) for suggesting this celebration! DC Comics helped support the DC Heroes<\/em> game system with house ads in their comic books.\u00a0 Below you’ll find one of those early advertisements.\u00a0 DC was clearly pulling out all the stops with this ad, leaning on the popularity of their Super Powers<\/em> line, the New Teen Titans<\/em>, and the Justice League of America<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\"Mayfair<\/p>\n

The first edition of Mayfair’s DC Heroes<\/em> came out in the summer of 1985.\u00a0 For me it was love at first sight!\u00a0 A gorgeous George Perez cover!\u00a0 Stats on my favorite characters!\u00a0 A combat system based on both combatants skill level!\u00a0 I recall spending hours and hours role-playing Batman adventures with my good friend Ravenface<\/a>.\u00a0 As the years went by I continued using the system.\u00a0 When the second edition came out in 1989, I became a full-time addict.\u00a0 I was part of a dedicated group of players by that point.\u00a0 We role-played our own adventures weekly, saving the world with a pair of ten-sided dice.<\/p>\n
