<\/a>We decided to have a\u00a0family movie night last\u00a0Saturday.\u00a0 After being exposed to all the hype surrounding\u00a0Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull<\/font><\/a>, my eight-year old step-son wanted to watch some of the original Indiana Jones films.\u00a0 He’d never seen them before, so we\u00a0started with “Raiders of the Lost Ark”.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Interestingly enough, I was\u00a0the\u00a0exact same age\u00a0my step-son is now when I first saw this movie.\u00a0 My dad, my brother, and I got to see a free\u00a0sneak preview a few days before the regular release (so this would be early June 1981).\u00a0\u00a0At this point, there was very little known about the film other than it was by the creators of Star Wars and Jaws.\u00a0 In the car on the way to the theater, my eight-year old self decided that the\u00a0film must be\u00a0about finding Noah’s Ark.\u00a0 Needless to say I wasn’t disappointed that I was\u00a0wrong after seeing this awesome film.\u00a0 Going to see movies with my dad growing up was a special treat, so I have fond memories of that night.<\/p>\n

Fast forward to the present.\u00a0 It was really fun watching “Raiders of the Lost Ark” through my step-son’s eyes.\u00a0 He was excited in all the right places, loved the action,\u00a0got scared at the end and peeked through his fingers while covering his eyes.\u00a0 We even dug out my old\u00a0brown fedora for him to wear during the movie.\u00a0 He said it made him feel safer.\u00a0 It’s nice to see that classic high adventure movies such as “Raiders of the Lost Ark” can still thrill children today.<\/p>\n

Afterwards, we watched one of the Young Indiana Jones Chronicles<\/a> stories – “Treasure of the Peacock’s Eye”.\u00a0 Truthfully, this was just a re-edit of a few of the weekly episodes.\u00a0 Regardless, my step-son really enjoyed the story.\u00a0 I think he connected with young Indy and enjoyed seeing Indy learn the skills he would go on to use later in life.<\/p>\n

Later at the grocery store, he asked\u00a0my wife to buy him\u00a0a box of Corn Pops cereal.\u00a0 Being a kind mother, she bought the cereal for him.\u00a0 It just so happened that this box of Corn Pops contained an Indiana Jones toy.\u00a0 What my wife didn’t\u00a0know is that he hates Corn Pops and it was simply a ruse to get the Indy toy.\u00a0 Pretty clever kid.\u00a0<\/p>\n

You throw me the Corn Pops, I throw you the whip!<\/p>\n
