Steven Moffat will succeed Russell T Davies as Lead Writer and Executive Producer of the fifth season of Doctor Who, which will broadcast\u00a0in 2010<\/a>.<\/p>\n

While not unexpected, it’s still\u00a0pretty exciting news!\u00a0 I think Steven Moffat is an excellent choice to be the showrunner for Doctor Who.\u00a0 He’s going to be brilliant! He can do really creepy (“The Empty Child<\/a>” & “Blink<\/a>“), he can pull on the heartstrings (“Girl in the Fireplace<\/a>“) and he can do funny (“Time Crash<\/a>” & “Curse of the Fatal Death<\/a>” with Rowan Atkinson).<\/p>\n

I liken this to the\u00a01970’s transition from Doctor Who producer Barry Letts<\/a> to Philip Hinchcliffe<\/a>. Barry Letts gave us tons of great stories (“Silurians<\/a>“, “Inferno<\/a>“, “Terror of the Autons<\/a>“, “Day of the Daleks<\/a>“, “Daemons<\/a>“, “Three Doctors<\/a>“, “Sea Devils<\/a>“, “Robot<\/a>“, etc). But then Hinchcliffe took it in a new scarier direction (“Ark in Space<\/a>“, “Genesis of the Daleks<\/a>“, “Terror of the Zygons<\/a>“, “Pyramids of Mars<\/a>“, “Brain of Morbius<\/a>“, “Hand of Fear<\/a>“,\u00a0“Deadly Assassin<\/a>“,\u00a0“Robots of Death<\/a>“,\u00a0“Talons of Weng-Chiang<\/a>“,\u00a0 etc). I can imagine we’ll see parallels where Moffat will take us to scarier places. I can’t wait.<\/p>\n
