{"id":792,"date":"2009-04-07T07:00:53","date_gmt":"2009-04-07T11:00:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/onceuponageek.com\/?p=792"},"modified":"2009-04-06T23:18:24","modified_gmt":"2009-04-07T03:18:24","slug":"teen-titans-year-one","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/onceuponageek.com\/wordpress\/2009\/04\/07\/teen-titans-year-one\/","title":{"rendered":"Teen Titans Year One"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.dccomics.com\/dcu\/graphic_novels\/?gn=10204\" class=\"broken_link\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright\" title=\"Teen Titans Year One\" src=\"http:\/\/www.dccomics.com\/media\/product\/1\/0\/10204_180x270.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"180\" height=\"270\" \/><\/a>I love me some classic Teen Titans.\u00a0 I love me some Robin, Wonder Girl, Kid Flash,\u00a0Aqualad, and Speedy.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">I love me some YEAR ONE books.\u00a0 I love me some BATMAN: YEAR ONE, JLA: YEAR ONE, ROBIN: YEAR ONE, and NIGHTWING: YEAR ONE.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">However, this is a case where\u00a0two great tastes <em>don&#8217;t<\/em> taste great together.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">When <a title=\"Teen Titans Year One at DC Comics\" href=\"http:\/\/www.dccomics.com\/dcu\/graphic_novels\/?gn=10204\" class=\"broken_link\">TEEN TITANS YEAR ONE<\/a> came out last year, I didn&#8217;t purchase it.\u00a0 I was trying to save money and\u00a0I felt like I could skip this one based upon the promotional art.\u00a0 I know at least one person who enjoyed it, so I tucked away in the back of my mind to read it someday.\u00a0 While at the local library last week with my kids, I saw the graphic novel of TEEN TITANS YEAR ONE on the shelf.\u00a0 I decided to give it a try.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The story was fun and light-hearted; the art was fresh and quirky.\u00a0 However, I&#8217;m having a very difficult time accepting this\u00a0as the official YEAR ONE story for the Teen Titans.\u00a0 If this is just a fun comic, with no implications for the greater DC Universe&#8230; fine, I&#8217;m sure there are folks out there who loved this.\u00a0 However, accepting this tale as the Teen Titans actual beginning is just unfair to these characters.\u00a0 This reads more like a script for the Teen Titans cartoon than something that should be the ancestor to the Wolfman\/Perez Titans.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">If looking at this as official DC continuity, then the characterization of the teen heroes is WAY off.\u00a0 All of them are far too socially awkward. Wally acts like Bart.
