Viva Geeks! It wasn’t too long ago that being a dork meant you weren’t cool. Oh how times have changed. A new generation of geeky entrepreneurs are setting the standards for business and the world we live in — they are the trendsetters. Being a geek is considered sexy nowadays (as the underwear above demonstrates).
In the spirit of trendy geeks, enjoy this geek-centric parody of Jay-Z’s “Empire State Of Mind.” Thanks to my old friend Butz for directing me to this.

I received this Batman: The Brave and the Bold Valentine from my good friend E. Peterman over at the Girls-Gone-Geek blog.
The printed Valentine itself is cool (it comes with a sticker!), however, it’s E’s own special additions which make it hilarious! I love me some Aquaman, but I still find this outrageously funny. I can even hear Diedrich Bader (the voice of Batman) say that line in my head! Thanks E!
Bill Watterson gave an interview this week to Plain Dealer reporter John Campanelli. This was Watterson’s first interview since 1989. Below is an excerpt:
JC: Because your work touched so many people, fans feel a connection to you, like they know you. They want more of your work, more Calvin, another strip, anything. It really is a sort of rock star/fan relationship. Because of your aversion to attention, how do you deal with that even today? And how do you deal with knowing that it’s going to follow you for the rest of your days?
BW: Ah, the life of a newspaper cartoonist — how I miss the groupies, drugs and trashed hotel rooms!
But since my “rock star” days, the public attention has faded a lot. In Pop Culture Time, the 1990s were eons ago. There are occasional flare-ups of weirdness, but mostly I just go about my quiet life and do my best to ignore the rest. I’m proud of the strip, enormously grateful for its success, and truly flattered that people still read it, but I wrote “Calvin and Hobbes” in my 30s, and I’m many miles from there.
An artwork can stay frozen in time, but I stumble through the years like everyone else. I think the deeper fans understand that, and are willing to give me some room to go on with my life.

Howdy folks! I’m on vacation all this week cruising around the Eastern Caribbean. Instead of just abandoning the blog all week, I’ll be running one picture a day. Since the Star Wars Motivational Posters were so popular last week, I’ll be giving you more this week.
Surprisingly, the SNL skit MacGruber (a parody of the TV series MacGyver) has been turned into a feature film. I enjoyed the skit for what it was (click here for my favorite MacGruber), but I’m not entirely sure there is enough to carry a feature film. Below you will find the red-band trailer. In other words, “Not Safe for Work”. Even if the movie stinks, the trailer is pretty funny.

By day, The Irredeemable Shag plays the part of a wealthy industrialist, playboy, and philanthropist. By night, he is a frightening creature that strikes terror into the hearts of criminals!
... or ...
maybe The Irredeemable Shag managed a comic book store for four years, and a movie theater megaplex for three years. Nowadays he's just a really vocal geek on THE UNIQUE GEEK, a semi-regular on the VIEWS FROM THE LONGBOX podcast, and runs the ONCE UPON A GEEK and FIRESTORM FAN blogs.
