Howdy folks!  I’m on vacation all this week cruising around the Eastern Caribbean.  Instead of just abandoning the blog all week, I’ll be running one picture a day.  Since the Star Wars Motivational Posters were so popular last week, I’ll be giving you more this week.

On March 6, the Big Bend Barkfest will be held in Crawfordville, Florida.  The purpose of this event is to assist the “throw-away” dogs of our society. Sadly, shelters across this nation are full of fine dogs, wonderful pets, and faithful friends. Many are needlessly ill or in pain.  The Big Bend Barkfest helps to provide health care needs, such as vaccines, antibiotics, testing supplies and other medications for these dogs so them may be placed into permanent loving homes. By so doing, these dogs will not only enjoy greater comfort and less pain, but a better chance of finding a warm heart with whom to share their love.

You are probably asking yourself, so why does this qualify as “geek”?  Well, Big Bend Barfest is sponsoring a raffle for a life-size statue of Jar Jar Binks.  The winner will be announced at Barkfest in March. For $2.00 per ticket you can take a chance on taking him home. All of the proceeds from the raffle go towards providing care for homeless dogs throughout the Big Bend area of Florida.  To buy raffle tickets, visit their website.

It’s a worthy cause and think of all the things you could do to a 7-foot Jar Jar Binks. 

The TV show Family Guy is doing another Star Wars parody.  This time out it’s The Empire Strikes Back that gets the Seth MacFarlane treatment.  The hour-long episode is titled, “Something, Something, Something, Dark Side” and will be available on DVD and Blu-Ray on December 22 prior to being aired on television.   This is a follow-up to the Family Guy spoof of A New Hope entitled, “Blue Harvest”.  There are already plans for a parody of Return of the Jedi entitled, “We Have A Bad Feeling About This”.

Below you will find the hilarious trailer for “Something, Something, Something, Dark Side”.  Not only is this a spoof of The Empire Strikes Back film, it’s also a spoof of the original trailer for the film.  Watch the Family Guy trailer below, then watch the original Empire trailer (further below).  The Family Guy trailer is patterned after the Empire trailer.

Did ya notice the horrible voice-over guy in the Empire Strikes Back trailer… yeah, that’s Harrison Ford.  Don’t believe me, go back and listen again.  He might be able to make the Kessel run in less than 12 parsecs, but he sure can’t do a voice-over.

I’m a big believer that Christmas decorations should not be put out until at least December 1.  Not the day after Thanksgiving, and definitely not right after Halloween.  Call me old fashioned, but for me December 1st marks the beginning of Christmas season.  That means starting today LET THE TINSEL FLY!

This Christmas us geeks have some new decorations to consider: the Yoda Tree Topper, and the Yoda Holiday Light Set!  I mean, c’mon, nothing says Christmas like a 900 year old Jedi Master with a light-up lightsaber.   The tree topper measures 12″H x 6″W x 6″D, but remember size matters not.  You can find these items through online retailers and at your local Target.
