Superbaby Outfit!

Here is a cute outfit my daughter wore when she was still itty-bity.  I was so proud to show her off in this!  Well… at least until that other little girl at her daycare, Lena Luthor, got a kryptonite baby-rattle. What a spoiled brat that kid was!

The Accidental Time Machine by Joe Haldeman

I recently picked up a very good book called The Accidental Time Machine by Joe Haldeman.  In five days I’ve read 240 pages, and I’m about 15 pages from finishing the book.  While I love reading, I’m rarely able to fly through a book this quickly unless I’m on vacation (which I’m not).  It’s a […]

Possibly the world’s most perfect geek food

Over the weekend I had the opportunity to try a bizarre recipe: Macaroni and Cheese Pizza.  At first I was horrified by the concept.  Then I considered the components.  Mac & Cheese = Good.  Pizza = Good.  Hmmm… I started to wonder if maybe these are two great tastes that taste great together.  I’ve long […]

Veterans Day: American soldiers versus Dinosaurs

I did this same post last year for Veterans Day, but I thought it was worthy of repeating. In honor of Veterans Day, I thought I would post some of my favorite covers from the comic book ‘Star Spangled War Stories’. These all feature ‘The War That Time Forgot’ as the lead story. American soldiers […]

Star Trek DVD and Blu-Ray Retail Exclusives

Next Tuesday (November 17th), Paramount Home Entertainment will release STAR TREK on DVD & Blu-ray!!!  Hot dog!  I loved this movie and can’t wait for the release.  To capitalize on this release, several retailers are offering incentives for you to purchase your copy from their store (as opposed to their competition). Here is a rundown […]

My Lazy Halloween Costume

I went to a family-friendly party the night before Halloween.  We knew the majority of families through my ten year old step-son’s Cub Scout troop.  I didn’t have a costume prepared, so I cobbled together something from around the house.  Here is the result: Lord Vader getting ready for night-night… I’m holding a security blanket […]

Astonishing X-Men Motion Comic

Check out this Marvel Motion Comic based upon Joss Whedon and John Cassaday’s Astonishing X-Men #1. Wondering what is a Motion Comic?  Essentially they take pre-existing artwork and move the drawings, enhance the artwork, record the dialogue, and add sound effects to create a near-animation experience.  It’s a neat way to animate your favorite stories […]

Music Review: LIGHTS debut album, The Listening

Music is not a frequent topic here at ONCE UPON A GEEK, however, the artist known as “LIGHTS” is a fellow geek and her music is definitely worth talking about.  She is a 22 year old up-and-coming musician who describes herself as, “a fairly small-sized, Canadian girl who makes intergalactic-electro music”.  Her style is very […]

Batman: The Brave and the Bold Defends Itself

Batman: The Brave and the Bold (BBB) has come under fire from hard-core Batman fans.  They feel the lighthearted representation of Batman in this cartoon takes away from the “Dark Knight Crusader” version they consider to be the “real” Batman.  The BBB version of Batman certainly is a departure from the one depicted in: Batman: […]

The Visitors Arrive Tomorrow

Tomorrow the Visitors arrive and they’re here to stay… again.  On Tuesday at 8:00pm the Visitors of “V” once again grace our screens after a 24 year absence. Long time readers of ONCE UPON A GEEK may remember that I’m a big fan of the 1980s phenom “V” (click here for other “V” related posts), […]
